My first taste of gaming

So I’ve always wondered where most people started in the gaming world, Some started in their childhood, others in their adult years, heck even some when they hit elderly status. For me it started at the tender age of three my brothers had this rectangular looking keyboard hybrid with a cassette attachment and on loading a game I was mesmerized at the screeching & beeping sounds and crazy flashes it did, probably seizure inducing but it was awesome. I was amazed and shocked never had I seen anything like it and what I was getting myself into, thus beginning my journey into gaming world.

One day my brothers where setting up this huge plastic thing as I thought of it back then, and curious I asked what they where doing, being in the way as a kid I got told to watch out or move or the occasional go away, but me being me I was determined I needed to know so I did what I knew best moaned and groaned and the classic words ‘I’m telling mom!‘  being a kid was frustrating looking back on it. Anyway getting back on track they just looked at me in a gaze that could turn people to stone and then came out the words, this little guy is known as a video games system and it’s name is a Spectrum (ZX Spectrum +2), me still had no idea what they where talking about was still intrigued.

As they started with the boot up I was amazed! This day in age if I was to sit there waiting for one of these games to load I’d flip! The loading was awful on these and it just shows you how far we have come in the gaming world. Games that load up though with the screechy sounds, the random beeps and flashy line backgrounds gives me that very nostalgic feel, those feelings are fantastic. So a couple of days later after watching my brothers play different games I asked if I could play, my older brother said yes, to my surprise I was overjoyed, my brother grabbed this game which had a little kid on a bike throwing newspapers. The game as most should know as Paperboy. Upon starting this game I had no idea what I was doing riding along the street throwing newspapers randomly and getting knocked down by the various pedestrians and obstacles in my way. I became annoyed and back then I had it bad, but with my brother helping me out I slowly but surely started to get better.

I learned you needed to deliver the newspapers to certain houses and avoid the obstacles better and learn their basic pattern, the ending to the levels were fun a little obstacle course, hitting targets and flying over ramps is a nice breather from delivering all those newspapers and gives a shine of success, to be honest could you blame me I was three years old! Now I did play a range of other games but this is the one that stuck out to me and it’s the one that I always think of when I think back to when I got my first taste of gaming it’s amazing how far gaming has come but there is nothing like that good old nostalgic feeling of the younger days now I have played this as an adult and it’s still pretty enjoyable still you can see it was a very basic game but most games are even to this day, but Paperboy will forever hold a special places in my heart. After all we all have to start from somewhere don’t we? It’s been a pleasure to share a little of my venture into the gaming universe, bye for now.

Darksiders & Red Faction Collections releasing next month

Always wanted to get into the Darksiders games or the Red Faction games, better yet both? Well good news, next month Nordic Games has announced that it both series’s will be getting their own collection and a stated to be released next month! The Packs will be available to PC, PS3 & Xbox 360.

The Darksiders Collection will feature both games, along with the Abyssal Forge and Belial’s DLC.

The Red Faction Collection will feature Guerrilla and Armageddon, along with the Path of War DLC. If you decide to pick up the PC version of the game, it will come with Red Faction 2.

I reckon these are some nice collections and if it’s a very cheap price point, they will sell well. Both packs boast some very awesome games. I, myself is a big fan of Darksiders and I patiently wait for a third one, I’m sure Nordic Games Have something planned, heck maybe if they sell enough or even if it doesn’t but earns them some for of profit. It could lead to maybe a sequel to one of the franchises!

Fantastic games, so if you haven’t picked these up yet and are wanting to try them out in a nice collection, keep your eyes peeled, due out next month, 14th of March.

This is one of my games of 2013 and to play it on PS4 in all it’s glory is a must. Mount your Chocobo’s, Equip your weapon of choice and let’s get ready for the adventures in Eorzea on PS4.

Make sure to Pre-Order the game here.

My favourite game series of all time

I’ve been thinking to myself what is my best game series is it Resident Evil ? or maybe it’s Final Fantasy ? or even Zelda but sadly no the one game series that’s intrigued me the most and kept me coming back to them these game have brought me joy aswell as sorrow sometimes it lead to fury and don’t forget in a tight situation it caused the slightest fear of getting caught sometimes it was a pain but in the end i kept coming back to them this series of games is my best series of all time i’ve enjoyed every game in it’s series i’ve played them all multiple times and never get bored if you haven’t guessed by now my favourite game series of all time is the metal gear series just every single thing about this game series i love the stealth, Action, Boss fights, Music, Story, Characters, Items just everything let’s review some of the games from the series and tell you some of the boss fights i really enjoy.

The story for this game is amazing from beginning to end the love story between Meryl and Snake, The friendship between Snake and Otacon, and even Otacons love for sniper wolf to liquids diabolical plan the setting the musical score everything about this games is awesome so lets discuss some of the battles

My list of favourite battles (Caution: Won’t be in boss order)

Battle One Vulacan Raven the second encounter: He’s possibly one of the best fights i had the one in the cold storage container room My best weapons to use are mines and stinger some of you may be thinking a stinger really and my answer is yes i plant mines around where i know he will eventually walk i sneak around and as i see him i whip my stinger out lock on shoot and run away and as he chases me he walks into my mines that’s my strategy anyway’s when i first ever fought him i had no clue what to expect and then suddenly your mind goes into overdrive i kept thinking if i do this then that but what if he catches me this fight got me thinking when i first ever played it until eventually i came up with the stinger mine solution to me this fight wasn’t just about winning and moving on it was the emotion of the fight the story the end of a life and just how Vulcan raven revealed so little but felt like so much and his last words that stuck with me for a long time “The path you walk on has no end. Each step you take is paved with the corpses of your enemies… Their souls will haunt you forever… you shall have no peace… Hear me, Snake! My spirit will be watching you!” truly awesome.

Battle Two Sniper wolf  both fights: Upon entering a room where meryl he shock when meryl gets gunned down and your in a position where you can’t do anything forcing you to fall back and obtain the sniper rifle on your return  you enter a great battle causing you to think fast and keep calm upon winning this battle the feeling is amazing as you make your way down the walkway your are tricked and captured by sniper wolf and a group of genome soldiers it’s just so great how it works out and later on out in the snowfield possibly one of the finest sniping fights ever and to be perfectly honest with you i was kinda sad when she died i felt sorry for hal he loved her and he wanted to be with her so much but it just Wasn’t to be and how she revealed her past and how she wasn’t waiting to kill people she was waiting to be killed it was a sad moment and such a great fight and the request of snake to finish her off hal appeared and revealed his true love for her and she asked for her sniper and says her last words to snake Ok hero…Set me free… and as the camera moves you hear an echo of a gun blast really is a sad but awesome moment.

Battle Three Gray Fox: the moment you see a ghostly figure of a cyborg ninja killing, Slashing, Throwing and just destroying all the soldiers that oppose him you you figure out it’s gray fox you first meet him during the fight with ocelot great fight but too short in my opinion anyways as you follow down the corridor after he enters the room you go in after him and he’s about to kill hal you step in and fight he asks for a fist fight after a few punch and kicks (or gun as you first try) he then requests you to hunt him down and engage in hand to hand combat after awhile realizing who he was and as it came to a climate fox vanished as the echoes of his screams followed It’s awesome as it comes together a man you once knew becoming something you would never dream off outstanding.

And to end it with

Battle Four Metal Gear Rex: Man vs Machine this is epic one man vs one huge machine the stinger and chaff grenades are the key to this one dodging lasers and rockets and his ferocious kicks its an epic battle throwing chaffs down and then shooting his stinger whiping his radar for awhile then running under him and shooting from behind upon on damaging him enough you think you have won until his radome kicks back in and your about to be killed fox appears and helps out revealing to you what happened between him and naomi hunter he goes a little into his past and tells snake they don’t have much time as he rushes out Rex suddenly turns blazing bullets at him as fox dodges and jumps up Rex activates his lasers slicing his arm off fox lands and jumps higher and Rex squishes him against the wall as he’s dying he takes out his radome and falls down and as Rex slams down on him he says to snake “We’re not tools of the government or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing… the only thing I was good at, but… at least I always fought for what I believed in. Snake… farewell…”  and is finally killed by Rex as he slams down one final time it was yet another sad moment.

And that is my top MGS1 Boss fights don’t get me wrong i enjoyed all the fights but to me these are the best ones.

The first half as people say but to be honest it’s less than half the game anyway’s the game opens up with an amazing scene of snake walking across George Washington bridge in very bad weather he starts running and jumps and bungees onto the tanker ready for infiltration some really great classic MGS action, Stealth truly amazing sneaking through and fighting Olga and then sneaking through soldiers during the colonel’s speech and taking photographs of the new Metal Gear Ray and ocelot shows up and kills the colonel and sinks the tanker then the game comes into present time and your new character is a guy called Raiden it took me awhile to warm up to the new character but he isn’t all that bad compared to what some people say.

Anyway’s onto some of the boss battles i enjoyed in MGS2 and again the limit is 4 again.

Battle One Fat Man: I love his character hilarious and dangerous the mad but himself brilliant bomb expert i loved this battle he rides around in his roller skates planting bombs which you have to quickly find and disable them i thought it was a clever fight he plants a bomb you find it freeze it whilst dodging his attacks and fighting it’s about speed and quick think truly great fight upon his death the line  “having nothing to wear for the party,”  truly humorous he also reveals that there is also another bomb that could completely blow up big shell all he says about it is that it’s near by which ends up being underneath him which is also quite funny.

Battle Two Olga Gurlukovich: Although a very short battle it’s a really good battle armed with a tranquilizer   you fight Olga she uses the environment which i thought was really clever by moving the light making it hard to see and you have to shoot it out and also shooting the straps on the sheet that’s held onto the shipment and making the sheet come unloose and wave about in the air causing distraction which was also quite cool it was a short battle and alot of you are probably thinking why didn’t i choose something else but i really did enjoy this boss fight alot.

Battle Three Vamp: he is an awesome character and not just a cheesey name either i think he has one of the best personalities as an enemy anyway’s when  he jumps out the water and latches onto the wall and fires those blades at you just giving you a few seconds to dodge out the way and dives back in the water and comes up through the middle of the platform your stood on and starts spinning round firing blades around just epic i beat him with the tranquilizer which took longer than the pistol but it’s a great boss battle the speed the action is truly immense upon defeating him you watch is body sink into the water and then later on when he has Emma held captive and you shoot him in the head which i thought was a great ending to his character in MGS2 i love the cutscene which happens before the battle where he runs across the water and up the side of the structure which i thought was really cool his character is amazing.

Battle Four Solidus Snake: This battle is amazing armed with a katana and ready to fight the first phase of the fight is simple dodge his tentacles and dodge the rockets he fires and after alot of hits he eventually gets rid of the tentacles and uses the speed/dash attacks which can sometimes be a pain giving you a couple of seconds to dodge and give you time to attack oh and did i mention he leaves a trail of fire around which is cool also watch out for his strong slice attacks they can be a pain also in all fairness the fight is easy but sometimes he can get you and you will loose alot of health if your not careful.

Short and sweet anyway’s on to the next one.

This game is outstanding and it’s an actual prequel to all MG games you play as big boss and find out how he got his big boss status i also love the setting and the survival elements to the game the music is also awesome especially the intro music and video truly a classic.

Anyway’s lets get down to the boss battles.

Boss Fight One The End: what you may think when you first meet him is a useless old man but no he is actually a really great boss fight armed with a sniper he can hit you just about anywhere and can be annoying to find but it’s quite funny you can take him out quite early in the game when he is sat there in his wheel chair you can actually snipe him and kill him off way before the main boss battle changing the game so you don’t have to fight him later but i find it more fun actually fighting him snipe vs snipe which is cool using the environment to hide and track him and dodge him it’s a classic sniping fight which sadly doesn’t exist in most games today the best way to find him is the reflection on his lense see this you have him but be careful he can also have you one of the best things you can do is kills his parrot it makes you harder for him to spot but be warned he gets a little more aggressive also there is another way you can kill him when you get to this boss fight save and quite change the time or just wait for about 7 days and come back to it the end actually dies of old age which is quite funny.

Boss Fight Two The Fury: The pyromaniac himself armed with a flame thrower and his space suit full of rage he runs around the area setting everything alight making it hard for movement and dodging also he uses a jet pack almost forgot about that anyway’s the boss fight isn’t all that hard it can be a little if your not careful with dodging and stuff you know the usual but i don’t like the way most people basically noob the fight standing back somewhere and using a power weapon i like to have a long fight plus i used the tranquilizer gun i love his death cutscene where he blows out flames then soaks it back in and claims the flames will “purge him clean, and then ” Radioing “mission control,” he fired up his jetpack and stated that he was “coming home,” and fly’s head first into the ceiling his fury bursts out into two and one fly’s towards snake forcing snake to dodge and the other as snake is near the exit it fly’s towards him forcing snake to run out and the as the tunnel is caved-in.

Boss Fight Three Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin: Such an evil sadistic man with the power of lightning in a cutscene he beats you to a pulp during your capture when he finds out your not really Raikov and requests for one of your eyes to be taken out as Tatyana intervenes ocelot starts to juggle his revolvers as snake kicks him which causes snake to get shot in his eye anyway’s onto the fight a vicious fist fight which you will be using your CQC to it’s fullest dodging and attack and be careful of his lightning attacks they can be brutal then later on when you fight him in the shagohad Which was quite enjoyable.

Boss Fight Four The Boss: Student vs Mentor the fight of all fights CQC bare knuckle fist to fist fight in the middle of a flower field the legendary battle and how snake earned his name big boss during the cutscene she says to snake “One must die and one must live. No victory, no defeat. The survivor will carry on the fight. It is our destiny… The one who survives will inherit the title of Boss. And the one who inherits the title of Boss will face an existence of endless battle.” which is a great memorable quote she also radio’s in during battle to force snake into carrying out his duties Russian fighters to star bombing the area which ain’t far away upon defeating her she gives snake the Philosophers’ Legacy and you finish her off with one final shot with her own gun a sad but gripping ending to the mentor  of big boss.

There is also another part of the game i really enjoyed and it’s The Sorrow’s fight while technically not a fight your just walking down a very long river coming across countless of enemies that you have killed along with the bosses you killed prior to this part of the game i thought it was an interesting aspect of the game  also the part when he mentions that snake was part of his sorrow which was awesome mystery i love the sorrow his character was a great spiritual character and i enjoyed seeing him quite alot throughout the game.

Truly a great way to go out such a fantastic story the whole reason i got a PS3 the cutscenes go really in depth along with the characters and music the new OctoCam suit which i thought was brilliant idea and the new cast of characters are cool and especially bringing back the old characters aswell nice touch!

Now for some boss battles

Boss Fight One Crying Wolf: How could i not include this boss it is nostalgic for me saim setting but upgraded and fighting a very similar boss to sniper wolf i loved this battle and oncoming guards and wolf dashing and using the area around as stealth i loved how she could pin point you down the best way is to go on top of the tower and snipe her but watch out for her rail gun it can pack a good hit i love the whole setting the nostalgia feel and the new feel a mightier battle which gives flash backs to when i fought sniper wolf  truly one of the best battles i’ve had in a next gen game brilliant!

Boss Fight Two Screaming Mantis: I had to include this boss as psycho mantis in the first one was a great boss and i enjoyed this boss alot the tactic into defeating her was awesome using the nanomachines suppressor and gaining her dolls to use against her she was defeated and to me that was an awesome tactic alot of people might disagree but for me this battle was great especially after defeating her psycho mantis appeared and tried to come back but failed in doing so and his spirit completely disappearing and then the whipsers of a voice saying “The spirit of the warrior will always be with you.” and a sudden glance upon the balcony of a figure in a dark coat looking down which i thought was a nice touch to the cutscene truly awesome.

Boss Fight Three Raging Raven: This battle reminds me of the battle with the fury for some reason it just seems to fit she also has some similarities to vulcan raven which is kinda obvious but the reason for this is the rage she has and the use of heavy weapons this is an all out explosive battle she fires rockets and missiles aswell as the many “Sliders” as they are known as i thought it was a really great action battle and again possibly one of the best fights on a next gen console from the chase sequence on the motorbike to the final battle on the huge building truly outstanding!

Boss Fight Four Liquid Ocelot: Well as the game comes to a closure and the final battle commences i thought it was a fantastic bare knuckle fight to the end it was a very unique fight especially with the names and health bars changing throughout the fight from old snake to naked snake and from liquid ocelot to ocelot a truly gripping battle one hit after another, after very lengthy battle with ocelot finally collapsing from exhaustion he finally reveals to snake his plan all along to destroy the Patriots, and to finally make Big Boss’s dream of “Outer heaven” a reality, and that Snake uploading Foxalive was actually part of his plan, and as he lays on the ground, Liquid Ocelot regaining his former self and then dying shortly after. Ocelot’s last words to Snake were “I am Liquid’s doppelgänger and you are his…” followed by “You’re pretty good,” the same phrase that Revolver Ocelot said to Snake before and that Big Boss said to Ocelot in MGS3.

Well that’s the main games that i was focusing on and my best boss fights through out the series i do enjoy all the games and if you have MGS3 Subsistance you get to play the original Metal Gear games from the MSX console all restored and in full english i suggest playing this over the NES titles as they where bad ports and Snake’s Revenge not even being a port from the original MSX game Solid Snake it was completely different and not as enjoyable but none the less this series has brought me more joy than all the rest of the series i mentioned at the beginning also the handheld versions ain’t as bad as people rated them i found them to be quite enjoyable aswell as soome nice music. The soundtracks to these games are beautiful and exciting and i’m hyped for Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance to bring new sounds and extra features aswell as new gameplay for MGS3D and MGR:R also i hope they release the custom style snake skin 3DS console here in the uk that would be truly awesome.

Some of the characters i liked from the series other than the obvious ones where

Nastasha Romanenko: She provided snake with alot of useful information and everytime i obtained a new weapon i would call her via snakes codec to here her information about the weapon i thought it was unique and i enjoyed listening to her conversations

Mei Ling: You key to saving your game also can be a good conversation and quirky conversations and also the creator of his codec she gives you support and caring coversations which are really enjoyable i like her sense of charm and character throughout the series.

Fortune: I love her character her character has a lot of strength and toughness and at the same time emotionless and at times quite sad, Lady luck as she’s come to be known as because of her impressive power to doge bullets or anything that comes her way later on we find out it was a device shield that was being used but later contradicts this theory as she actually dodges missiles snake was impressed by this otacon speculated it could of been the device interfering with the guidance missiles

Drebin: The weapons dealer from MGS4 i fought his character was slick and quite humerous he helps snake out by disabling the weapons he optains through out the game and you actually later find out he’s a spy for the patriots and injects snake with a new version of foxdie to kill of eva, bigboss and ocelot and also allows you to use any weapon you obtain by unlocking them he ends up coming out as a really cool guy and a great addition to the game series

Decoy octopus: Although very very short lived i like the sound of his character i guy that would go the the full lengths even injecting the peoples blood who he’s trying to impersonate as in MGS1 he impersonates the DARPA chief after ocelot kills the real DARPA chief during interrogation he disguises himself as him and is killed of by the foxdie virus after giving snake some useful information i found the mystery of his character to be quite intriguing

And basically that’s it they are few of the characters that i enjoyed quite alot  throughout the series.

Well that took awhile and i hope you enjoy reading this as much as i enjoyed writing it and i look forward to MGR:R to all the new and hopefully some old characters that come along and remember guys keep being awesome.

Sonic Generations 3DS Review

So let’s get into it i’ve been playing this for about for about a week, I have beat all stages, apart from the final boss but we will get into that.

Graphics: They are really well done, using the 3DS feature is a really nice touch. Everything from speed, enemies firing at you, to getting hit and seeing your rings bounce around. Truly humbling. The game is full of awesome design, on both classic and modern sonic! Especially on modern sonic when you go through a shuttle loop, the way it changes it’s outstanding!

Boasting new level designs and new stages, which i found really unique, and fresh. I’ve played this game all the way through with the 3D effect, it’s just awesome.

Sound: Amazing music, they way in transitions between each is truly bliss (Come on, nearly every sonic has a wonderful sound).

With tracks from earlier sonic games to later ones, comes out really well with the 3DS’s sound output. From the beautiful music, too the glistening sound effects. Truly fantastic! especially the satisfying “pop” sound the enemies make, is quite enjoyable.

Controls: they are for the most part pretty great, aside from the last boss. Dashing, running, and basic movements worked really well. I can’t complain about those! My main complaint is the final boss stage is kinda annoying, the dodge just doesn’t seem to work, it’s either a flawed bug… Or it is the way the camera transitions? There has been others have also experienced this problem.

That being said, I don’t hate the game. I find that end part to be kind of frustrating. Everything else works really well, and the games runs very fluid.

Features: Street pass is very unique. Street pass allows you to collect new bonus content that’s exclusive to this version. I like the included “feature” being able to see other people’s progression stats, from the main story. Thought it was a pretty nice feature.

Online versus mode, is a fun racing experience! Pitting your speed against a stranger, or against a friend. Nice competitive gameplay mode to test your skills to.

There is also a collection feature. Which includes events, art, music, and models. You can unlock these through casual play.

Time attack mode for those who want to beat there fastest time, and yes there is rankings too! Which can fun to compare with your friends and other players.

Summary: All in all this is truly amazing! from the eye candy graphics to the ear pleasing sound, a sonic game to be proud of! The one we have been waiting for. So different to the 360/PS3/PC versions, yet equally fun! After my experience with it, I’m proud to give it a rating of 7.5/10 A Sonic game worthy of being in your handheld collection!
